Plastic Polly

In 1982, Randy Pratt joined up with a very talented singer, songwriter, guitarist, and band leader, Gene Oliver, in his all-original-material band, PLASTIC POLLY. Gene was further along than Randy in every way. He was confident of his talent, lyrics, and musical direction. He was also “weird”, like Randy, but more developed. Drummer Dave Gasparri and I developed a good, tight connection. The singer was a good-looking guy named Jerry. PLASTIC POLLY was the only beneficiary of a Teac 4-track cassette machine that I’d managed to get my hands on, and, thankfully, John Dugan, the sax player and my roommate, was experienced enough to capture some well-rehearsed music… Randy’s first recordings. Buried treasure, these cassettes have just recently been found and polished off. Gene Oliver, John Dugan, Dave Gasparri, the singer (a guy that he knew from a friend’s band that had broken up… Jerry), and Randy also did a live-in-the-studio hyped-to-the-max run-through right before leaving for their first and, sadly, only gig. Randy: “I must say… I was better than I thought I was… this stuff is well played, well written, and has style.
